Pride

The pride of goodness, is the root of evil.

By discarding selfishness and pride, one achieves saintliness.

One's pride in intellect, prevents absorption of words of Śāstras and saints, into the inner faculty.

Whatever is special about caste and class, is for the service of others, but not for pride.

As much pride you take in your goodness, so much more evil you would create. So do good and take no pride in it.

Knowledge leads to salvation, but its pride to hell.

In acquiring worldly objects, one feel proud, but in attaining God pride never arises and is ever destroyed.

Without giving up selfishness and pride, man never achieves greatness.

Where there is pride of class, devotion is difficult, because devotion is through the self, not through the body. But class belongs to the body, and not to the self.

So long as one is selfish and proud, one could not love anybody.

A proud person serves less, but feels he serves much more. The humble feel it as less, but serve much more.

The vanity of wisdom, arises from foolishness.

What is one's own, does not make one vain, and what is not own, also does not give vanity. Vanity comes from things that are not one's own, but are treated as own.

The vanity to assume full knowledge only for part, makes one an atheist. Not content with what one knows and seeks more knowledge, makes him a seeker.

When a community, creed, ideology, scripture, person etc., stress upon renunciation of selfishness and vanity, they are great, but by exhorting these for self and pride, they become degenerate.
