Nature
Selfishness and pride-both these spoil the nature of a person. An aspirant must always give up both selfishness and pride.
Even after worship, meditation and spiritual efforts being done, presently, these may not show clear benefits, because of impurity of human nature and behaviour. So every aspirant must make special efforts to improve his nature.
There is no better progress than purifying one's nature.
Of him whose nature improves, for him world betters.
One whose nature is to cause pain to others, he not only suffers pain himself, but also makes others suffer. However, if one's nature is to give pleasure to others, he not only gives pleasure to them, but he himself also gains pleasure.
Man can improve his nature by himself, others can only suggest remedies and assist him.
Our nature can improve, when we do justice to ourselves, meaning that we are punitive to ourselves and compassionate with others.
Good company, good scriptures and good thoughts-these three improve our nature. (888)
One whose nature improves, he does not face a downfall.
"Shall do later", is a means leading to a great fall. It is difficult for a person of that nature to receive blessedness (Kalyāna).
