Enjoyment of Pleasure and Hoarding

As the people's interest in pleasure and hoarding increases, so much does un- righteousness increase in society. With increase in irreligiousness in society, sinful conduct, strife, conflict and other faults increase, accordingly.

Whatever pleasure you enjoy, ultimately distaste results-this is a rule. But man makes the mistake of not strengthening his feelings of distaste and makes these permanent.

One who lives a life of pleasure, could not be saved from pain, because pleasure arises from the relationship with the inert, and this inert link is the cause for the greatest pain of repeated birth and death.

In whatever pleasures, an ordinary person finds enjoyment, those pleasures, a thoughtful person considers as painful. Therefore, he neither enjoys these, nor becomes subservient to them.

Until the tendency to enjoy worldly pleasure is eliminated, howsomuch one might read and write, become clever and sensible, achieve much ability, become an orator, or writer of books, he would never get complete peace of mind.

Happiness derived from sense-objects, is neither ours nor is for us. Because, we are immortal and pleasure is ephemeral.

Increase in the pleasure-seeking and hoarding tendency, is the cause of famines.

Whatever thing, ability, power we have, all belong to the society and not to us. Our fault is, that we treat these things etc., as ours and use these for our gratification. By this, we helplessly suffer pain.

Where one notices enjoyment of worldly pleasure, you must understand that there is danger around.

Securing pleasure from a thing or a person, is sheer stupidity.

Worldly pleasures, to begin with appear sweet, but towards the end, these are like poison, always dangerous.

Man can make use of given things by enjoying them and also serve others with these. His enjoyment leads him to a fall, but by serving others, he gets a rise.

Enjoying pleasure with his own wish, makes a person to suffer unhappiness against his wishes.

Using a thing for the good of others, is its good use, and to use it for personal pleasure, is its bad use.

One who uses things, persons, circumstances and conditions etc., for personal pleasure, his uneasiness for achieving God does not awaken.

So long as man keeps on receiving pleasure from the world, till then he would not be free from pain, whether he is a saint, a householder or whatever else.

Whether one gets pleasure or not, if he is interested in worldly happiness, he is sure to have a fall.

As much pleasure a man enjoys, he would so much become a slave of pleasure; and as a slave he would suffer pain. Therefore, it is necessary to give up the enjoyment of pleasure. (789)

One, whose intellect is much influenced by inert things (worldly pleasures and hoarding), even if such a person might be highly educated, his fall is assured. But if his intellect does not attach importance to inertness and attaining God is his objective, such a person, even if not well-read, his ascent is sure to happen.

If we receive happiness from anything, we must become its slave. An enjoyer of pleasure can never be independent.

We are not to be enjoyers of pleasure, but we have to be givers of happiness.

It might be 'Yoga' (spiritual union) or 'Bhoga' (enjoyment of pleasure) and if man receives happiness from either, he gets caught.
